I told Megz Mum a couple of weeks ago I would accept this little challenge of hers and do a tour of my kitchen. But I got so wrapped up in other things I forgot about posting the pictures so here we go:
When we had our house built, I told Ron that since he got to extend the garage, that meant I could upgrade our kitchen. I had always wanted cherry cupboards so this was my chance :) And since we plan on living here forever, I decided to get exactly what I wanted. Ron was hoping this meant I would cook more...oh wait, not more...just cook in the first place! (Hasn't happened really)
Let's start at the one corner and work our way around. This is what I like to refer to as our 'junk' corner. It's almost a dumping ground. We have our big calendar sitting on the counter and if there is anything going on - rest assured it's written down; too hard to remember otherwise :)
I love the cupboard space we have! We had a spot made especially for our microwave so that it wouldn't sit on the counter but our new one didn't fit in there as well as the other one so now the little 'nook' holds a needle point my Mother in Law made for me, our spice rack, a couple of candles and Rachel's vitamins. I really don't mind the microwave being on the counter now that we're used to it. In some ways, I prefer it since it's lower now.
The other side where the sink & dishwasher are...and more cupboard space. I also love the fact that while you're working in the kitchen you can see what's going on in the family room since we spend the majority of our time in there.
Our eating area. The blinds are closed but there is a patio door behind them that leads to our deck out back. The window on the right looks out to our side yard/back yard (we have a pie shaped lot so it's kind of weird) and our deck wraps around to that part of the house as well.
The view of our kitchen from the family room. We don't use our breakfast bar as much as we used to before we had kids but the extra chairs certainly come in handy when we have company. The pictures on the wall (left hand side) are of Rachel dressed up as a chef. They're some of my favourite pictures of her. We had Natalie's pictures done like that as well but I don't know where to put them. I'm thinking of getting some new frames and putting them all up along the stupid bulkhead. I wanted to have crown moulding but with the design of our house, we couldn't because there are too many pipes/duct work that needed to be hidden behind the bulkhead.

Hi there, and thanks for the tour! I do like your kitchen - plenty of cupboards and bench space! and I like that it is part of your eating/family room like ours is - very much an integrated living space.
That's a pretty awesome kitchen for someone who's always had pokey ones.
