Ron & I worked our butts off yesterday (if only you could literally do that ha ha) and we cleaned our basement to make a play area for the girls. What else do you do when it's pouring rain outside, right?
Prior to this, our basement was a 'holding area' for everything we didn't know what to do with :) When I go back to work in January, we're planning to finish our basement (can't wait) but in the meantime, we needed to get a bit organized down there. We moved our air hockey table out of this area and moved some other stuff around so the girls could play.

Next on the list - to get rid of all those diaper boxes by the cold room door. They are full of clothes that Natalie has outgrown in the past 3 months. We're giving them to Tim & Rybeca this Saturday so Nadia can use them, too. All of our other baby stuff is sitting in another corner of our basement waiting to go to friends of ours as well. It will be great to get rid of this stuff (crib, swing, bouncy chairs, jolly jumper, etc) since it seems to take up so much space and it will be even better knowing that it's going to someone who will appreciate it and take good care of it like we did. After the baby stuff is out of the way, Ron & I are going to go through our storage totes and see what else we can get rid of. The problem with these totes is that they're from our childhood/early adulthood so they're time consuming to go through because we have to show each other things :) But if we plug away at it bit by bit, we should be able to have everything ready to go by January when I'm back to work. That's the goal anyway :)
It took Ron a good hour to cut up all the cardboard last night. I'm sure the recycle/garbage guys are wondering what's going on because this was our garbage last week after cleaning out the computer room/office

3 bags of shredding, 3 blue boxes and a big box of cardboard that Ron cut up. Then 4 bags of garbage - which happens to be the limit here. This week we'll have 2 boxes of cardboard, 3 blue boxes and who knows how many bags of garbage. I told Ron that we may need to give a couple of bags to my parents to put out. :)
We're just about to head downstairs to show the girls the new play area. We're pretty excited about it and hopefully they are, too! The rain is supposed to be coming our way again soon so playing in the basement sounds like a great idea (it's so humid outside; it's disgusting).
Stay dry!

Ah you line up the trash and recycling neatly. I know somebody else who's like that.
What a beautiful big basement you have!
