It's been a crazy week! Last Sunday Rachel woke up with a fever of 102 so I gave her some Tylenol and she seemed to be ok. Later on that day we were at my parents for a Canada Day bbq and she was very clingy and wanted to cuddle (Rachel is like me and doesn't like to cuddle). She felt really warm again so I gave her more Tylenol and once again, that seemed to help. After dinner though, we were sitting by the fire and she hopped up on my lap and fell asleep (soooo unlike her to just fall asleep like that). We headed for home shortly after that and sure enough, the fever was back. I gave her Motrin this time around and off to bed she went...for a few hours. She was up quite a bit during the night and she wanted me to sleep in her room. For the sake of wanting some sleep myself, I caved and climbed into the single bed (I hate that bed - it's so uncomfortable). She was up a few times during the night so it was a LONG night. On Monday morning the fever was gone and I was happy, happy, happy! Monday night at dinner though, it was back...and it was 103 this time around. More Motrin and cuddles and we somehow made it through the night (again, I got to sleep in that wonderful bed). Tuesday morning the fever was still 103 so we headed to Children's Emergency. Big mystery here because her ears were clear, her chest was clear, but her throat was a little red so they did a throat swab (never heard back from them so it must have been ok as well)...and then we had to wait for a urine sample. OH MY GOODNESS!!! :) They gave us a little cup and I giggled at the nurse - I remember what it was like trying to pee in those while I was pregnant and I had NO idea how I was going to get Rachel to pee in one. Thankfully the nurse came to the rescue and they put a little bag on Rachel. It broke my heart to see them putting it on her but we couldn't leave the hospital until she gave a urine sample. Fast forward an hour - we got the sample and it was clear - we could go home. They told us to keep giving her Motrin every 6 hours and if it got worse, then we should return. Pretty much Wednesday, Thursday & Friday were the same - she just wasn't herself during the day and at night she was waking up.
Thank goodness my parents live close by and are enjoying retirement because they were over every day to help out while I tried to catch some zzzz's. I managed ok the first day and then on Wednesday I had a nap while the girls napped but when you're only getting 3 hours of sleep a night, it's hard to take care of two little ones, especially when one is attached to you at the hip.
Thankfully Rachel is back to normal now. Apparently this fever thing is a virus that is going around. We have friends in Barrie & St. Catharine's who went through the same thing. Even our neighbour's little boy had it. Fevers don't normally make me nervous but when they linger on for a few days....well, I just didn't like that so much.
To make up for being in the house pretty much all week, we went to buy some fresh strawberries and flowers today. Rachel was very excited to be outside helping her Daddy :)

Putting the soil in the planter
Natalie watching all the excitement.
Nice tongue, Natalie!
What a cutie!
Natalie smiles or laughs 90% of the time she's awake. It's awesome!
Rachel with her hat on backwards (we think she does this so then she can see)
Here's hoping it's a better week this week. We're off to St. Catharine's on Wednesday to visit my friend Lora & her kids. It will be my first long trip with the girls on my own...wish me luck :)
